Supported Internships

A supported internship is a structured, work-based study programme designed for young individuals aged 16 to 24 who have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and wish to transition into employment but need additional support. These internships provide substantial work placements, typically lasting around 600 hours or between 6 months to a year, where young people can develop the skills needed for work while receiving support from a job coach

Benefits of Supported Internships

  • Helps young people aged 16 to 24 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and an education health and care (EHC) plan to secure and sustain employment.

  • Provides support from a qualified job coach to assist in the transition to employment.

  • Allows interns to spend around 70% of their time learning in the workplace, while also completing a personalised study programme that includes relevant qualifications.

  • Increases a business's confidence in employing individuals with additional needs.

  • Businesses do not need to pay to host a work placement for an intern, although they may have other business costs such as time spent planning, training, and supervising.
